PURPOSE:To automatically decide a read area without cutting a side designated by an operator by deciding an input area to be scanned from an output size, a bit of up-and-down and right-and left section information, and a decided coodinate value. CONSTITUTION:The output size, the two-point coordinate value of a side, and the bit of up-and-down and right-and-left section information which divides whether the side if of up-and-down or of right-and-left are inputted from an output parameter means 10 and a coordinate value input means 11, and the coordinate value of one side in a horizontal or a vertical direction of the rectangular area of an original to be scanned is decided with a vertical/horizontal line segment deciding means 12, then being stored at a storage means 13. A vertex coordinate deciding means 14 decides the rectangular area which sets the line segment consisting of the decided coordinate value similar as a rectangle formed with the output size from the output size, the bit of up-and-down and right-and-left section information, and the decided coordinate value as one side as the input area of the original to be scanned, and decides the two-point coordinate value of the previous described input area.
