PURPOSE:To enable execution of smooth short turn running, by a method wherein a control device is provided with a means, deciding a desired steering angle according to a detecting rear wheel steering angle and a detecting car speed, and a means, correcting a decided desired steering angle ratio, and steering of rear wheels is controlled according to the decided desired steering angle ratio and the correcting result of a correcting means. CONSTITUTION:A turn direction discriminating means 5 discriminates a turn direction by means of a decided desired steering angle ratio and a detecting front wheel steering angle, and a computing means 6 computes the overhanging length of the rear part of a vehicle in a direction opposite to the turn direction according to a detecting front wheel steering angle and a detecting rear wheel steering angle. When the computing length is longer than a detecting length between an obstacle and the rear of vehicle, a correcting means 8 decreases and corrects the steering angle ratio according to a difference therebetween, and according to the correcting result, a control means 4 performs control of rear wheel steering. This constitution enables execution of smooth short turn running without bringing the rear part of a vehicle into contact with the obstacle. |
