PURPOSE:To improve the error correcting capacity by increasing the number of error correcting times when correct data are requested, by repeatedly executing error correction over a previously set number of times only when an error exists in data stored in a memory. CONSTITUTION:The signal of a readout device 1 is stored in a RAM 3 through a CPU 2. An error correcting circuit 41 which corrects errors by using error correcting codes and error detecting circuit 42 which decides the presence/ absence of errors by using error detecting codes are provided in an error correcting/detecting circuit 4. Data obtained by correcting the data stored in the RAM 3 by means of the error correcting circuit 41 are stored in a RAM 5. Therefore, when an error exists in the data stored in the memory, error correction is repeatedly executed for a previously set number of times by using the data stored in the memory and correcting codes.
