PURPOSE:To improve the response for paging input and output by determining the arrangement of an external page in an external storage device so that the access time depending upon the movement of a head is minimum. CONSTITUTION:The contents of a DASD (direct access storage device) head position storage part 14 only for a page file are checked, and when the last access is attained to the DASD for the page file, free slots more than page-out requests in the slot group closest to a head position are assigned according to a DASD control table 11 only for a page file. When the slot group having free slots more than page-out requests is not present, free slots in the slot group closest to the last access position are allocated, and when they do not satisfy the number of page-out requests, closer slot groups are assigned one after another so that the movement extent of the head is minimum. |
