The invention relates to a device for opening a parachute, allowing both controlled opening and automatic opening. This device combines, a, known controlled opening means, comprising a bag 1, an extractor, an extraction strap 7 and a manual opening control 2, b, known automatic opening means, comprising a strap SOA 8, and novel means comprising a double-locking system for the bag 4, 12, a breakable braid 26 linked to the strap SOA and a retractable linkage system between the said braid 26 and the extraction strap 7. In the case of tension on the strap SOA (automatic opening), this linkage system holds the braid 26 fastened to the extraction strap until the said braid breaks. In the case of tension exerted by the extractor on the extraction strap 7 (controlled opening), this system frees the said braid and the device is back in its usual state for carrying out the controlled opening sequences. <IMAGE>
