PURPOSE:To readily obtain active carbon yarn containing many pores having relative large pore diameters, by adding a compound of an element of group IIA of the periodic table to an uncured novolak resin, subjecting the resin to melt spinning to cure, it, carbonizing and activating the prepared yarn. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. nucured novolak resin is blended with 0.01-10pts.wt. one or more of compounds (e.g.,calcium gluconate, ferrocene, etc.,) of an element of group IIA of the periodic table, transition metal and potassium) and subjected to melt spinning. Then, prepared yarn is immersed in a mixed aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid and an aldehyde and cured by heating, etc. The prepared cured novolak resin yarn is carbonized and activated generally with an oxidizing gas such as steam, carbon dioxide, air, etc., or a chemical such as zinc chloride, etc., to give the aimed yarn. |
