After the candidate characters below the second are collated, the result is stored in a storing part 9. If the first candidate character is not a correct character, the selection of the candidate characters below the second is instructed from a character correction instructing part 8 and a standard feature relating to the candidate character is taken out from a correcting dictionary 10 and fed to the collating part 5. A feature editing part 11 follows the instruction from the instructing part 8 on the absence of a reinput and corrects the stroke information of the input character stored in the storing part 4.
