PURPOSE:To coat a thin homogeneous layer at high speed without generating uneven coating by coating while keeping a coating liq. reservoir at the edge part of a back blade. CONSTITUTION:In the method for coating a magnetic recording material on a traveling carrier, an extrusion-type coating head 2 is pushed on the carrier without supporting the back surface of the traveling carrier, the liq. reservoir 6 is held by the edge part 7 of the back blade 3 of the coating head 1, which is closest to a slot 8 and to the carrier 1, and the traveling carrier 1, and coating is carried out. Uneven coating, etc., are prevented in this way, and a homogeneous layer can be coated at high speed.
