In a digital compass, a magnetic device is installed in a rotatable shaft (4) which, in turn, is rotatably supported in the two bearings (3, 3'). The shaft (4) has at its lower end a transparent code disc (8) which is connected to it and which is equipped with codings (9) and which also rotates when the shaft (4) rotates. When the shaft (4) rotates, code disc (8) also rotates and the coding (9) is scanned by means of an electronic scanning device (10). The indication of degrees appears in a three-digit number by means of a liquid display (11) and can be read as such. <IMAGE>
