PURPOSE:To maintain a high sound and transmission quality and to decrease a delay time by performing a connection between terminals corresponding to a relevant calling request without passing through a PBX which does not coincide with the code number of the destination dial number of the calling request. CONSTITUTION:Multiplex devices 2000 and 3000 have a branching/relay function 5000 for changing the connection states of digital multiplex extensions 50, 60, 70 into a branching state and a relay state according to respective conditions of the calling. The change of the constitution of the branching/relaying indicates the changeover of the branching state in which the respective channels of the lines 50, and 60 are connected to the trunk line 20 and 21 of a corresponding PBX 2 in a ratio of 1:1 and the relay state in which a busy signal (a calling receipt prohibit) is transmitted to the trunk lines 20 and 21 of the corresponding PBX 2.
