PURPOSE:To obtain an antibacterial agent having excellent antibacterial activity and useful for the remedy of various bacterioses, by extracting bark of Melia azedarach with a polar organic solvent and using the extract as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:Bark of Melia azedarach (meliae cortex known as a Chinese herb drug) is extracted with a polar organic solvent (preferably methanol or ethanol) at room temperature or under heating and the solvent is distilled off from the filtrate to obtain a polar organic solvent extract of the bark of Melia azedarach. The extract exhibits excellent antibacterial activity and is useful as an antibacterial agent. It is converted to a drug by conventional method and administered in a dose of about 1-5g/daily for a male adult. |
