PURPOSE:To improve the liquid leak-resistance by specifying the quantity of zinc alloy powder per unit area contacting against the electrolyte on the inner face of a negative electrode container and zinc alloy powder. CONSTITUTION:Such an alloy as mainly composed with zinc while added with proper quantity of mercury, indium and lead is employed as a negative electrode active material. The quantity of mercury in said alloy is regulated to 0.4-7mg/cm<2> per unit contacting area against the electrolyte on the inner face of a negative electrode container and zinc alloy powder. With such arrangement, gelation along a copper layer in the inner face of the negative electrode container under existence of alkaline electrolyte is suppressed so that the liquid leak-proof performance of cell is considerably improved. |
