PURPOSE:To provide an antistatic agent which is excellent in antistatic effect and in compatibility and adhesion with a plastic material, stable against heat and safe to human health and which comprises a polystyrenesulfonic acid, optionally converted in part to a chloride form. CONSTITUTION:An antistatic agent comprising a polystyrenesulfonic acid. Pref., the polystyrenesulfonic acid has an MW of about 4,000 to about 20,000 and has a degree of sulfonation of 40-90%. A polystyrenesulfonic acid partially converted to a chloride form is also useful as an antistatic agent. It is pref. in this case that the proportion of free sulfonic acid groups to the total sulfonic acid groups be in the range of from about 10 - about 100%. The above agent is a highly effective antistatic agent which is excellent in antistatic effect and in compatibility and adhesion with a plastic material, highly stable against heat and no injurious to human health. |
