PURPOSE:To properly grasp the volume of transmitted picture information by transmitting picture data together with its volume information from a transmission side and deciding the volume of reception error data based on the data volume information from a reception side. CONSTITUTION:A transmission side equipment TU has a picture data generation means T1 forming picture data to be transmitted and a data volume generation means T2 detecting the number of said picture data. A transmission means T3 transmits both the picture data and data number information. In a reception side equipment RU, a reception error volume detection means R1 compares the number of actually and properly received picture data with the transmitted data number information, and detects the reception error number. Thus the reception side can properly grasp the volume of the transmitted picture information, whereby not only selecting signals MCF, RTP and RTN, but also other appropriate processings can be carried out.
