<p>1312794 Coating composition MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC WORKS Ltd 29 July 1970 [31 July 1969] 36813/70 Heading C7U [Also in Division C4] An inorganic coating composition comprises (1) an alkaline aqueous solution of an alkali metal silicate and (2) at least one condensed phosphate prepared by heating (A) MO.x P 2 O 5 y H 2 O where M = Al, Mg, Ca, Cu, Fe, Mn or Zn, M:P (atomic ratio) = 0À25 to 1À0, and x and y are integers with (B) an inorganic metal compound which is (i) a Group I or II metal hydroxide, (ii) a weakly basic metal oxide, e.g. Al 2 O 3 , BaO, TiO 2 , ZrO 2 , Cr 2 O 3 , MnO 2 , FeO, Fe 2 O 3 or Fe 3 O 4 , or (iii) calcined double oxide obtained by calcining (a) a mixture of a Group II metal oxide, e.g. of Mg, Ca, Zn, Sr, Cd, or Ba with a Gp. IV oxide, e.g. of Si, Ti, Zr, Sn or Pb or (b) a mixture of a Gp. II metal oxide with at least one of Al, Sb, or Bi oxides or (c) a mixutre of oxides of transition metals, e.g. of Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Zn or Cr, the calcination being at e.g. 200-1300‹ C for 1-5 hours and being followed by pulverisation. Alternatively a precursor calcinable to give such a double oxide may be calcined, e.g. a carbonate or hydroxide. 0À2 to 1À5 parts by weight of (B) are used per part of (A), the heat treatment being at 120-150‹ C for 30 min-10 hours, and the made-up solution contains 0À3-1À5 parts by weight of alkali metal silicate per part of condensed phosphate and 1-2 parts of water. The composition may also include up to 30% based on the solids content of an inorganic filler which may be a clay, e.g. bentonite, sand, CaCO 3 , gypsum, or furnace waste, and may be applied to iron or slate, the coating being moisture cured at 60-100% humidity at 20-100‹ C or heat cured at 100-200‹ C.</p> |
