1,2,4-Triazole-3-carboxamide is prepd. for use as a synthetic intermediate of ribarvirin which is an antibiotic. 1.03g of oxamonohydrazide is mixed with 1.04g of formamidin acetate at 180≦̸C, for 1hr. This reaction mixt. is cooled and then 20ml of 2-propamol is added into this mixt.. After filtration, 30ml of ammonia water is mixed with the recovered crystalline, and this mixt. is stirred 30mins. After filtration, drying of this crysalline gives 0.56g of 1,2,4-triazole-3-carboxamide.
