PURPOSE:To realize a wide dynamic range by a method wherein a region detecting the amount of signal charge and another region having the same conductivity type as said region and provided with a bias supplying means are so formed as to hold an isolating region therebetween. CONSTITUTION:A signal charge coming from below a transmission gate electrode 11 and getting over below an output gate electrode 12 is transmitted to a floating diffusion layer 13. A change in potential of the floating diffusion layer 13 is outputted through an amplifier 15. After the outputting, a reset pulse voltage is impressed from a reset pulse impression electrode 18 onto an N-type region 14, so as to discharge the signal charge into the N-type region 14. The voltage VR of a clock pulse on this occasion is impressed so that a P-type isolating region between the floating diffusion layer 13 and the N-type region 14 be depleted completely. In other words, the potential of the floating diffusion layer 13 is reset by said clock pulse. Since the spread of a reset pulse having occurred due to capacity coupling existing between a reset gate electrode and the floating diffusion layer is excluded, a signal output of a wide dynamic range can be obtained.
