Motor vehicle brake system

A motor vehicle brake system is described with a brake master cylinder (6) and with a wheel brake cylinder (2) equipped with a pressure piston (1). The pressure piston (1) has two effective pressure surfaces (9, 10), one of which can be shut off or connected up as required by a control valve (16). By means of this arrangement the contact pressure of the brake shoes on the brake disc (13) can be controlled in isolation from the force applied on the brake master cylinder (6). The brake system is intended to largely prevent locking of the vehicle wheels. <IMAGE>
