For changing bobbins, there is provided a receptacle (12) for intermediate storage and splicing preparation of a bobbin (2a) fed from a store, from which receptacle the bobbin (2a) is transferred, after the splicing operation, into a receptacle (21) designed as an unwinding device (22). In the two receptacles (12, 21), the bobbin (2a) is held on its circumference. The change of the bobbin (2a) from the first receptacle (12) into the second receptacle (21) takes place by lowering a pair of rollers (13a) of the first receptacle (12) and by pulling the spliced material web (19, 19a). The second receptacle (21) is formed by endless bands (26, 26a) which are arranged at an angle ( alpha ) and which grasp the bobbin (2a) on portions (24, 24a) of its circumference. <IMAGE>
