PURPOSE:To measure an angle of rotation over a wide range without requiring any backup power source by providing a fine synchronous electrical equipment, a rough synchronous electrical equipment, and a fine/rough selector. CONSTITUTION:The fine/rough selector 2 is normally connected on the fine side. A synchronous digital converter (S/D), therefore, receives only the output data of the fine synchronous electrical equipment 7. At this time, a multi-speed absolute type measurement part 4 is driven only when the power source is turned on and when re-setting is commanded, so the rotation of a shaft 6 to be measured is measured only by a semi-absolute type measurement part 3. Further, when the re-setting is commanded, the selector 2 selects a rough-side connection, so the angle of rotation of the rough synchronous electrical equipment 9 is inputted to a rough memory 15 firstly and the selector 2 is switched to the fine-side connection while the normal state is entered, so the angle of rotation of the fin synchronous electrical equipment 7 is inputted to a fine memory 16 at the moment and the angle of rotation of the object shaft 6 is calculated based on the data in the fine and rough memories 16 and 15, so that this data is outputted as data in presetting with a dot signal.
