PURPOSE:To obtain the titled pannel having a prescribed transparency and capable of changing reversibly the transparency by using the thermotropic liquid crystal of a high polymer having a side chain, and by arranging a heater and an electrode on a surface of the pannel so as to move it freely. CONSTITUTION:The thermotropic liquid crystal of the high polymer having the side chain is holded with the transparent substrate plate 2. When the transparency of the pannel is desired to increase, the arm 5 is moved at prescribed speed while acting the heater 4 and the electrode 3 simultaneously. Thus, the film 1 heated by the heater displays the liquid crystal property. In said condition, the electric field is impressed, whereby the side chain of the high polymer is orientated in a prescribed direction so as to transmit the light resulted in the increasement of the transparency. When said arm moves, the heated area of the film is cooled immediately, thereby solidifying the orientation of the film, namely maintaining the transparency of the film to the prescribed value. On the contrary, when the transparency of the pannel is desired to depress, the orientation of the film which transmits the light is disordered by heating the film, thereby changing to the arrangement of said chain so as to scatter the light.
