The invention relates to a device for performing measurements in metal melts, having an immersion measuring head (1), inserted into the front end of a tube, which head holds a measuring device, with the parts of the measuring device which project relative to the body of the measuring head being covered with one or more caps. To increase the precision of measurement, an aluminium foil is applied over the outer cap, which preferably consists of cardboard, and rests tightly against this cap. In another embodiment of the invention, the cardboard tube (2), surrounded by an outer refractory sheath (12), is covered, at least in the region of the outer tubular sheath (12), with an aluminium foil (10) which also covers the front outer surface of the body of the measuring head (1). Further, the body of the measuring head can be wrapped with an aluminium foil, and is inserted, without use of a cardboard tube, into the front end of a tubular refractory sheath. The body can also be mounted in the front end of a cardboard tube; in that case the said tube is provided with an aluminium foil, at least over the length which is immersed in the melt. <IMAGE>
