A composition is prepared by mixing usually in a mutual organic solvent, (a) 20-75wt% of polycarboxylic acid and/or anhydride, e.g. a (meth)acrylic polymer or maleic anhydride, and (b) a vinylacetate polymer, which can be a copolymer with a vinyl monomer, and preferably has a mol.wt. of 60,000 or more; plasticiser, water and/or a polyhydric alcohol may be included.
<??>A percutaneously absorbable pharmaceutical drug can be dissolved or dispersed in the composition.
<??>The composition is cast on a release surface and dried to make a film-like adhesive material of thickness 5 - 500 mu m which can be used alone to cover a wound or to administer a drug if one has been incorporated. The film may be laminated to a soft backing, e.g. a plastics film.
<??>The resultant dermal bandage or preparation for administration of a drug has good adhesion to the skin and high water-resistance.
