The work station comprises a personal computer (9) to which there is added a board (31) for the Teletex service. This board comprises an additional memory (32) for storing messages, with a back-up battery (52), and a logic means (34) controlled by the CPU (17) of the computer via an interface (33) and bus converter (25). The board is supplied by the power supply (28) of the computer and further comprises a relay (56) which is actuable with a keyboard control (13) to switch off some peripheral units of the computer from the power supply, while preventing the CPU and the added board from being switched off. The work station is equipped with a operating system which makes it possible for a processing program and a Teletex service program to be executed concurrently.
