A railway wheel profile measuring instrument comprises two separate gauging probes having engaging tips 9, 13 for respectively engaging the surfaces of a master profile 11 and the wheel 1. A signal is produced proportional to the changes in the relative vertical distance between the tips as the tips traverse across the profiles. The master profile 11 may be represented by a mathematical function loaded into the memory of a microcomputer. <IMAGE> |
