The patent describes a process for treating patients suffering from bleeding disturbances which are not due to coagulation factor defects or coagulation factor inhibitors, as well as a previously unknown composition for use in the treatment of bleeding disturbances. The process involves administering, to a patient, a composition which comprises an effective haemostatic quantity of factor VIIa and it is particularly effective when treating patients suffering from thrombocytopenia and von Willebrand's syndrome, as well as other blood platelet disturbances. A composition which is suitable for treating such bleeding disturbances comprises purified factor VIIa in a concentration of at least 25 μg/ml.
