Method for making contact with individual braided cable conductors, using an insulation-piercing terminal contact device

The individual braided cable conductor is changed from a round cross-sectional shape into an elongated oval cross-sectional shape in a region which is intended for making contact with an insulation-piercing terminal contact device, even before being pressed into the contact-making slot of the contact device, by means of pinching surfaces which act on the conductor transversely with respect to the course of the contact-making slot, and are inserted into said contact-making slot with this new cross-sectional shape. In this way, for example the damaging shearing off of outer braids of the braided cable conductor during the contact making is largely prevented and a significantly larger area contact is achieved between the braids of the conductor and the contact device. In addition, the contact-making slot can be of narrower dimensions than would be possible for making contact with a braided cable conductor of round cross-section. <IMAGE>
