A seat is proposed which has a single, common, rigid support shell (10) for the backrest cushion (12) and the seat cushion (14), and in which the backrest cushion (12) nevertheless moves backwards and the seat cushion moves forwards in order to utilize the space surrounding the seat evenly when a seat user changes from an upright sitting position into a reclined sitting position. <IMAGE>
