Variable-friction drive transmission devices of the type which has driving balls which are in constant rolling frictional contact with a pair of inner ball cages and a pair of outer ball cages concentric with one another and separated axially are distinguished by the fact that (a) they do not generate any gyrotoric forces at the working speeds, (b) the requirements for the driving torque do not increase when the output speed decreases, (c) they do not have any parts which can shift out of phase when the transmission devices are operating in the load-free state, and (d) which have a higher power output per dimensional unit than conventional designs of such transmission devices. The transmission device according to the invention is distinguished by the fact that (A) outer and inner, circular, concave ball tracks and (B) a simplified hydraulic feedback control device are provided, the latter displacing the outer control cage only in the direction of a speed increase, while the said cage is displaced in the opposite direction by the action of the rotational forces and the spring pressure.
