The contact component is spherical, and has an inner ball-shaped body (4), and an outer spherical shell (5). It incorporates a pressure-sensitive medium (6), e.g. a material with piezo-electric properties, or one whose resistivity alters with pressure. Connections (7,8) are provided, as is a unit (9) for detection of changes occurring when the contact component comes into mechanical contact with a measurement object. An alternative arrangement can be envisaged where the contact component alters its capacitance to produce a detectable signal. In this case, between the body and the shell would be an elastic dielectric. Capacitance alteration is achieved as the result of relative movement between the shell and the body. |
