PURPOSE:To obtain a block copolymer excellent in both mechanical properties and compatibility with other polymers, which is composed of a polyphenylene sulfide part and an aromatic sulfide sulfone polymer part and has a specified logarithmic viscosity number. CONSTITUTION:A block copolymer comprising a polyphenylene sulfide part and an aromatic sulfide sulfone part and having a logarithmic viscosity number [eta]in the range of 0.03-1.0. Said [eta] is a value obtained by determining a relative viscosity at 206 deg.C in an alpha-chloronapthalene solution of a polymer concentration of 0.4g/100ml and calculating it according to the equation: [eta]=ln (relative viscosity)/polymer concentration. Said block copolymer can be obtained, for example, by reacting the terminal groups of an aromatic sulfide sulfone polymer with the terminal group of a polyphenylene sulfide. This block copolymer is excellent in mechanical properties such as bending strength impact resistance and excellent also in compatibility other polymers such as polyphenylene sulfide.
