METHOD OF OPTICAL RESOLUTION OF N-BENZOYL-DL-ALANINE

PURPOSE:To subject N-benzoyl-DL-alanine to optical resolution in high yield and in high optical purity, by using an inexpensive and readily obtainable optically active substance of alpha-amino-epsilon-caprolactam as a resolving agent. CONSTITUTION:N-Benzoyl-DL-alanine is subjected to optical resolution by the use of D-form or L-form of optically active substance of alpha-amino-epsilon-caprolactam in water solvent at 0-80 deg.C. The amount of an optically resolving agent used is 0.1-2.0mol, preferably 0.5-1.0mol based on N-benzoyl-DL-alanine. The optically active substance of N-benzoylalanine is useful as an intermediate for synthesizing D- or L-alanine or a raw material for producing medicinal peptide.
