PURPOSE:To prevent the seizure of bearings by providing a rugged surface to at least either of the bottom surface of an upper bearing box or the top surface of a lower bearing box. CONSTITUTION:The rugged surface 8 consisting of many projections are formed atop the lower bearing box 6 of the bearing boxes 5, 6 for supporting work rolls via circular cylindrical roller bearings. Cooling water to be applied to rolling rolls and rolling material is also applied to the bearing box 5 from the side thereof to cool the bearing box 5 in the stage of rolling. The top surface side of the bearing box 5 is cooled by so-called mount water and part of the cooling water flow stagnates on the rugged surface 8 or is directionally changed by said surface so that the bottom surface side of the bearing box 5 is simultaneously cooled. The bearing box 6 is also subjected to the similar cooling between said bearing box and the bearing box of the lower back up roll. Since both the bearing boxes 5, 6 are capable of preventing the formation of a large temp. difference between the top and bottom, the seizure of the bearings is prevented. |
