PURPOSE:To keep a polishing piece in contact with the entire, surface of a work for complete elimination of non-uniformity of grinding to achieve uniform polishing of the entire surface, by arranging many polishing pieces which are made flexible due to cuts formed in width direction, spirally along the peripheral surface of a cylinder. CONSTITUTION:The remaining side of a polishing belt 4 made flexible by providing cuts 5 with a partially remaining portion in width direction, is mounted to the fixing edge 7 of soft elastic body. When this fixing edge 7 is wound around spirally on the peripheral surface of the cylindrical barrel 1, the polishing belt 4 becomes accustomed to the cylindrical 1 barrel 1 by bending flexibly from the cut portions 5 and a flexible polishing cylinder A is formed with polishing pieces 6 spirally arranged along its peripheral surface. Then, when the cylindrical barrel 1 is rotated after being fixed to an axis 2, since each of the polishing pieces 6 arranged spirally along the peripheral surface of this cylinder, is connected to one another serially, each polishing piece 6 is moved successively to its corresponding portion in response to its rotation, and the entire surface of the work can be polished evenly.
