PURPOSE:To improve the utilizing efficiency of power supply by detecting the remaining power of a battery so as to set a possible speed of a pulse motor. CONSTITUTION:In depressing a release switch 18, a voltage of the battery is sent to a main control section 6 via an AD converter 4 from terminals 202, 212 of a nickel cadmium pack 2a or an alkali pack 2b. The remaining power is obtained by the main control section 6 depending on the voltage and a signal representing the kind of the battery from terminals 204, 214, a possible drive speed of the pulse motor is set and displayed on a display device 20 and a signal representing the state is outputted to an oscillator 14. The oscillator 14 outputs a frequency signal in response to the set drive speed to a control circuit 8 to drive the pulse motor via an exciting pattern storage section 16 and a drive circuit 10. Thus, even when high speed recording or reproduction is executed, the utilizing efficiency of the power supply is improved.
