PURPOSE:To extract a closed loop graphic from in a graphic having a deformation and a noise, by extracting successively a point for satisfying condition which has been prescribed in a closed loop graphic extracting dictionary, from in fundamental feature points which have been extracted and registered from an input drawing. CONSTITUTION:With regard to all picture elements of a binary image data from an image input device 1, a fundamental feature extracting device 2 encodes a pattern shape of its minute peripheral area, and outputs a point for satisfying a condition which has been designated in a fundamental feature extracting dictionary, as a fundamental feature point candidate, to a fundamental feature table 3. On the other hand, in a closed loop graphic extracting dictionary 5, a P feature code for using one of two adjacent apexes of a closed loop graphic of a recognition object, and detecting the other, an N feature code which must not exist in a detection range, and a parameter for prescribing a detecting direction and a detecting range are stored successively, and a closed for satisfying a condition which has been prescribed in the dictionary 5, from in a fundamental feature table 3.
