PURPOSE:To prevent the throughput from decreasing by decreasing the frequency of input and output between an extended storage device and a main storage device when the operation of a magnetic disk device is simulated. CONSTITUTION:Data transfer between the extended storage device 11 and main storage device 10 is carried out in track units. Further, track contents are read out of the extended storage device 11 to a track image buffer 15 unless the contents of a track necessary for any track image buffer 15 are held. Track contents are written from the track image buffer 15 to the extended storage device when the contents held in the track image buffer 15 are changed into different track contents and when the simulation of a channel program for a virtual disk deice is finished. Then, that is carried out unless the contents of a track which are held so far are reflected on the extended storage device 11 although the contents are updated.
