PURPOSE:Titania sol is dispersed in a medium immiscible with water into liquid drops to form spherical hydrogel and roasted, after a specific compound is added thereto, to give the titled spherical particles which are suitable for use as medium for crushing and dispersion, because they are resistant to wearing. CONSTITUTION:An alkali is added to an aqueous solution of tetravalent titanium sulfate to effect partial hydrolysis to give titania sol. The titania sol is dispersed in a liquid which is immiscible with water such as carbon tetrachloride to form spherical particles of hydrogel. Then, at least one of hydrogel selected from metal compounds of Ba, Y, Sb, Al, Zr, Si and Bi such as Y2O3) and phosphorus and fluorine is added to the hydrogel. Then, the particles are roasted to give spherical particles of titania with a diameter of 0.3-5mm. Then the metal oxide or phosphorus or fluorine content in the particles are suitably about 0.3-20wt%.
