PURPOSE:To decrease tape vibration generated due to protrusion of a magnetic head to a magnetic tape by forming a circular arc having a curvature radius larger than the curvature radius of a cylinder outer circumferential surface at the outer circumferential surface of a part near the head fitting position of a rotating cylinder. CONSTITUTION:By forming the outer circumferential surface near a magnetic head 4 of a rotary cylinder 1 with a circular arc surface 1B by a radius R2 larger than a radius R1 of an outer circumferential surface 1A of other part, at the circular arc part 1B, a tape T is adsorbed to the cylinder. Thus, the tape T is deformed along the circular arc part 1B and further, the floating quantity is kept in accordance with the relative speed of the circular arc part 1B and the tape T and the cylinder by the fluid lubricating effect at the circular arc part 1B. When the magnetic head 4 is provided at the circular arc part B, the tape T is once deformed from the outer circumferential surface 1A to the circular arc surface 1B, and thereafter, deformed in the outer direction by the magnetic head 4. By the effect of the A part, a protruding quantity DELTAh' of the magnetic head 4 is set to small in quantity, even then, the abutting on the tape can be sufficiently assured.
