In order to be able easily to open and close a garage door or the like having divided plates 1, 2, on the sides of the plates there is mounted a system of arms which ensures a smooth folding motion when the door is operated. These arms comprise a lever arm 16, which is hinge-connected to respectively a control arm 15 and a pressure arm 17. Attached to the control arm 15 there is a tension spring 14, which counterbalances the plates 1,2. In addition, between the middle of the control arm 15 and a bracket 23 fitted pivotably to the side frame 3, a spindle motor 10, 11, 13 is mounted, which can move the control arm 15 up and down. In order, however, to be able to initiate the opening of the door, the plates 1, 2 must be pressed inwards, which will be done by a swivel arm 6 attached to the bracket 24 being swung outwards. When the motor 13 turns, the spindle 10 will press the bracket 24 downwards and thereby swing the arm 6 outwards and press inwards against a lug 8 attached to the side of the lowermost plate 2, after which the spindle drive will be able to fold the plates 1, 2 until the door is open. <IMAGE>
