PURPOSE:To improve the quality of a treated product by preventing scale formation by decreasing the dead space, by allowing juxtaposed trunnions so rotate in such a manner that the edge of the helical member of the impeller of one trunnion may sweep the zone near the rotation center of the other impeller. CONSTITUTION:While a highly viscous liquid to be treated, such as polyethylene terephthalate, which is fed to the body 1 of a vessel from an entrance nozzle 7, is subjected to a mixing action by impellers 5a and 5b, it is subjected to a liquid transfer action and is transferred toward the direction of an exit nozzle 8 and continuously discharged from the exit nozzle 8 after the desired treatment operation has been performed during transfer. At this time, the impellers rotate in such a manner that the edges of the helical members 4a and 4b of the impellers 5a and 5b may sweep each other and may scrape the inside wall of the body 1 without leaving any area unscraped and transfer the liquid toward the exit. In addition, the dead space can be remarkably decreased because the mixing and liquid transfer actions can be performed by a rod-like structure. Thus, the adhesion to the surface of rotary shafts or to the surfaces of flat impellers or concomitant rotation of the liquid can be substantially eliminated.
