PURPOSE:To obtain the titled magnetic recording medium having excellent dynamical characteristic and heat resistance and sufficient dispersibility by composing the binder for the magnetic layer of a kind of vinyl chloride copolymer resin having a hydrophilic group and an epoxy group, nitrocellulose, and a flexible binder. CONSTITUTION:The vinyl chloride copolymer resin having at least one kind of hydrophilic group selected from COOM, SO3M, SO4M, and PO4M2 and an epoxy group is obtained by using a radical-polymerizable monomer or a radical generating agent or by the partial reaction with a compd. having a hydrophilic group. High rigigity and wear resistance are provided to the medium by the nitrocellulose and the heat resistance is also raised. The adhesion of a magnetic coated film is increased by the flexible binder, the third component of the binder, and a thermoplastic polyurethane resin, etc., are further used to provide toughness and to improve the wear resistance. The binder is preferably composed of 10-75wt% thermoplastic resin, 10-65wt% nitrocellulose, and 10-75wt% flexible binder.
