The method uses an instrument with a cylindrical housing (1) which supports a scraper (9) attached to a shaft (6) which is oscillated in the axial direction. At the opposite end to the scraper, the housing supports a motor (10) which drives a shaft (12) which carries an end face cam (16). The cam acts on a roller (17) mounted on the upper end of the scraper shaft. The motion of the cam (16) together with a return spring (20) imparts a linear oscillation to the shaft. The shaft engages a lever (25) which oscillates a mass (7) which provides a dynamic counter-balance for the shaft (6).
