PURPOSE:To measure the height of contained liquid distinctively between a bubble layer and a liquid layer by observing the height of an ultrasonic reflected wave from the internal wall surface of a container wall. CONSTITUTION:When a probe 6 is at a part corresponding to the bubble layer 4, the bubble layer 4 contacting the internal wall surface 2 is a mixed layer of air and liquid, so the reflection factor of an ultrasonic wave 7 by the internal wall surface 2 has high-frequency variation between a maximum value, i.e. 100% and a minimum value determined by the acoustic impedance of respective materials of the container wall 1 and liquid part and has a reflected wave crest value which fluctuates greatly so that the maximum value is equal to a standard value like an internal wall reflected wave 9 shown in figure. Thus, the height of the probe 6 on the container wall 1 and the state of the reflected wave of the ultrasonic wave 7 from the internal wall surface 2, i.e. internal wall surface reflected wave 9 are compared and observed to measure the height of the contained liquid including discrimination between the bubble layer 4 and liquid layer 3. |
