PURPOSE:To precisely and easily detect the remaining amount of a sheet, by detecting the rotating amount of a rolled section onto which the sheet is wound, and the rotating amount of a conveying rotary body so that both rotating amounts are compared with each other. CONSTITUTION:A recording sheet 1 is wound on a spool core 2 which is rotatably supported at both ends by means of holders 3a, 3b. A disc having slits 9a is secured at one end of the spool core to detect the rotational speed SR of the spool core 2 with the use of a photo-interruptor 10, and the detected rotational speed SR is delivered to a computer 11. Further, a recording sheet 1 is allowed to pass through between a conveying roller 5 and a recording head 6. A conveying signal SP from a control section 8 is delivered to a stepping motor 4 through a driver 7 to control the rotational speed of the roller 5. The computer 11 computes to compare the rotational sped signal SR with the conveying signal SP to obtain the remaining amount of the rolled recording sheet. Thereby it is possible to precisely display the remaining amount of the recording sheet.
