PURPOSE:To separate Y from C even by a horizontal line or an oblique line by providing a means for deciding an contour part of an image corresponding to a composite video signal, and when the contour part of the image is decided, executing Y/C separation in an area having the most strong correlation. CONSTITUTION:The 1st 2H comb filter is constituted of 1H memories 51a, 51b, the 2nd one is constituted of 1H memories 51b, 51c and the 3rd one is constituted of 1H memories 51c, 51d. The size of correlation of images is decided mainly by an absolute substracted value forming circuits 29-31 and a minimum value selecting circuit 35. Thus, the outputs of three comb filters are selected to execute YC separation. Consequently, the YC separation can be correctly executed by the outline consisting of horizontal lines and oblique lines.
