PURPOSE:To obtain a urea compound economically, in high yield at high rate of reaction without causing corrosion of materials, by reacting an aromatic primary amine with an aromatic mononitro compound and carbon monoxide in the presence of a compound containing platinum-group metal. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic primary amine (e.g. aniline) is made to react with an aromatic mononitro compound (e.g. nitrobenzene) and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst composed mainly of a compound containing platinum-group metal [e.g. Ru3(CO)12] at 30-30 deg.C and 1-500kg/cm<2>, preferably at 120-200 deg.C and 1-150kg/cm<2> using the above aromatic primary amine as a reaction solvent to obtain an urea compound. The aromatic primary amine which is one of the raw material is used in large excess as a solvent. |
