PURPOSE:A drug useful as a remedy for diabetes, promoting release of insulin, containing saliva peptide P-C as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A remedy containing a polypeptide consisting of 44 amino acids shown by the formula or a substance having the same effects as those of the polypeptide. The polypeptide is a polypeptide named saliva peptide P-C and it has been reported that the peptide exits in B cell of human pancreas but the peptide is not recognized in the B cell of the pancreas in some diabetes. It is shown that the saliva peptide promotes insulin release from pancreas of normal and diabetic rats, it enhances a physiological insulin liberation reaction in glucose load and is ineffective at all against insulin liberation by glibenclamide, a synthetic drug. It is found that the peptide acts physiologically.
