PURPOSE:To surely feed paper sheets one by one, by arranging a motion converting mechanism composed of a pinion and a rack member and a clutch adapted to release the urging pressure of a pressing member. CONSTITUTION:A motion converting mechanism 48 is composed of a feed roller 23 adapted to be rotated by a paper feed motor, a pinion 45 operationally coupled to the above-mentioned motor and rack member 47 meshed with the latter. Further,a pressing member 29 is supported by the rack member 47 so that it presses a printing sheet against the feed roller 23 in accordance with the linear motion of the rack member 47. When the contact pressure between the printing sheet and the feed roller 23 due to a pressing motion exceeds a predetermined value, a clutch 46 releases the operational coupling between the pinion 45 and the paper feed motor. As a result, the printing sheet is pressed against the feed always by a constant contact pressure irrespective of the amount of loaded printing paper, and therefore, the paper sheets may be fed surely one by one under a constant contact pressure.
