PURPOSE:To carry out optical resolution of the titled compound, by treating beta-dichlorohydrin ester of racemic modification with an optically active 1,1,6,6- tegraphenylhexa-2,4-diin-1,6-diol derivative, obtaining a complex taking one of antipodes and separating it. CONSTITUTION:beta-Dichlorohydrin ester of racemic modification is treated with an optically active 1,1,6,6-tetraphenylhexa-2,4-diin-1,6-diol derivative(e.g., 1,6-di-0- chlorophenyl-1,6-diphenylhexa-2,4-diin-1,6-diol, etc.,) shown by the formula (X and Y are H, halogen, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkoxy or alkylthio), a complex taking one of antipodes of the ester is formed and the complex is separated to carry out optical resolution of beta-dichlorohydrin ester. USE:A precursor for epichlorohydrin.
